TAZEWELL, VA (WVNS) — Progress is being made on a mural in Tazewell depicting famous town figures and landmarks through the years.

Amanda Hoops is the Executive Director of Tazewell Today, a nonprofit of small business owners and concerned citizens. She explained each element of the mural was designed by a student from Tazewell Elementary, Middle, or High School.

“We’re trying to incorporate the arts and more of our aesthetic appeal of Main Street.” Hoops said. “We have a lot of events here, and so we feel like the mural would just add to the atmosphere.”

One hundred-fifty community members are painting the mural onto a fabric, which is then glued to the wall of the Between Friends business on the west end of Main Street. It is expected to be fully finished and unveiled by Sunday, September 29.
