UPDATE: Victims name released in a shooting in Mercer County

UPDATE: 7/12/19 at 5:30 p.m. According to Mercer County Sheriff Deputies the call came in just after 10:30 p.m. on Thursday July 12.

When deputies arrived to 1277 Stoney Ridge Road in Bluefield, WV, they found Joshua Rasnick dead near the front door of the home from a gun shot wound. Deputies and West Virginia State Troopers were able to locate 22 year old Timothy Hager in the woods after a short foot pursuit.

According to court documents the girlfriend of the deceased stated that Rasnick and Hager got into an argument and as Rasnick was walking toward the door Hager shot him with what she believed to be a rifle.

Hager was arraigned Friday afternoon at the Mercer County Magistrate Court. He is charged with Felony 2nd Degree Murder and other misdemeanor charges.

Detective Sommers said they charged him with 2nd Degree murder instead of 1st degree because it did not appear to be premeditated.

“First degree murder requires premeditation, a plan prior to the act. Second degree murder there is no plan of a malicious killing of another person,” Sommers said.

Hager is being held at the Southern Regional Jail on a $55,000 cash only bond.

Sommers said they are still talking to people gathering information on the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.
