Did you know your beard could contain more germs than your dogs fur?

Professors with Switzerland’s Hirslanden Clinic took samples of the whiskers of 18 men and compared them with sampled from the necks of 30 different dog breeds.

They found bearded men, ages 18 to 76, showed high counts of bacteria, but only 23 out of 30 dogs had high counts. Seven of these men sampled were found to have bacteria that could be a threat to their health.

Owner of Kilted Barber, Tara Barlow, said they see men with beards everyday, ultimately it is about keeping them clean.

“More than half of our customers when they come in for a haircut, they have beards. Whether it just be a scruffy beard to a long beard and I have not encountered anything where I felt that it was going to be unsanitary,” Barlow said.

Barlow reccomends washing your beard as you would your hair and also using a beard oil. She also said she would hate to see this study deter men from proudly wearing their beards, she finds them very attractive.
