Summer kick-off to White Water Rafting

LANSING, WV (WVNS) – It is no surprise that there has been plenty of rain to start the summer. Although that may put a damper on weekend plans, it is made for a thrilling time on the New River.

Staff at Adventures on the Gorge said the conditions on the river are particularly exciting right now because of all the rain we have been seeing. CEO of Adventures on the Gorge, Roger Wilson, said this rising water level is giving rafters the experience of a lifetime.

“Well one great thing about the liquid sunshine that we’ve been having, it’s helped the water, the levels of the river stay up,” Wilson said.

Water levels in the New River are seven feet higher than they usually are this time of year. With the water levels that high, rafters will get an experience like no other.

For Anna Tompkins and Jake Eccleson, visitors from Michigan, this was not their first time rafting, but they did have a different experience this time around.

“It was so much fun. The river’s so fast right now,” Tompkins said. “It’s so fast and really high.”

“We got to hit some great rapids and some great waves,” Eccleson agreed.

The New River is forcing people out of their comfort zones, as well as their rafts with class five rapids.
