CHARLESTON, WV (WVNS/WOWK) – Gun Buck Season starts today and the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources predicts approximately 250,000 deer hunters will be roaming the woods of West Virginia.

Before you load up the truck and throw on your blaze orange here are a few quick tips to remember:

  • Wear blaze orange. State law requires hunters to wear 400 square inches.
  • Don’t have a loaded gun in a motor vehicle.
  • Make sure someone knows where you are going and what time you plan on getting back.
  • Buck firearm season is open in all counties except Logan, Mingo, McDowell, and Wyoming.
  • All hunters must use their permanent DNR ID number to check game. The number can be found on annual hunting licenses.
  • Game may be checked by telephone at 1-844-WVCHECK, online at wvhunt.com or at any hunting license agent.
  • The season ends on December 1, 2018.
