SHADY SPRING, WV (WVNS) – Todd Duncan, a golfer at Shady Spring High School won the Class AA Individual State Championship last week.

As a team, the Shady Spring Tigers finished 3rd overall at the State Championship held at the Jones Course at Speidel Golf Club in Oglebay Park in Wheeling, WV.

Duncan fired an opening round 72 to take a commanding lead over the rest of the field. He followed that up with a 78 on Day 2 to secure the Class AA Individual State Title.

Duncan says he credits his success to practicing throughout the off season and constantly pushing himself.

“It’s a new day everyday, you can be good one day and really bad the next day. You can never really be the best at the sport, its always something new that comes up. You’re doing something different every day. It’s just fun trying to do the best you can at a hard sport,” Duncan said.

Duncan is currently in his Junior year at Shady Spring. He says he hopes the State Title win grabbed the attention of some college coaches. Duncan will look to defend his title next year, as a Senior.
