The Fayette County Commission met today to discuss a number of plans for the future, one being the consolidation of utilities within the county. The utilities they focused on are primarily water and sewage. This consideration may help keep rates as low as possible and have the least amount of impact on the customers paying for these utilities. Executive Director of Region 4 Planning and Development, John Tuggle, said this kind of consolidation could help people financially.
“With the down turn in the coal industry there’s been a number of users and customers that are within these entities, that are no longer there. They’ve moved away and so a number of them are having financial difficulties and their revenue stream is shrinking,” Tuggle said.
This would take a number of years before implementing a consolidation plan such as this one. As of right now the commission is just looking at their options.
