RICHMOND, Va. (WFXR) – State delegates Chris Hurst and Sam Rasoul are hosting a press conference with Senator John Edwards Thursday to talk about legislation regarding natural gas.

According to Hurst’s office Delegate Hurst introduced two house bills into legislation.

The first, House Bill 1187.

If passed, this bill would  stop the ability of natural gas companies going on private land without consent.

Senator Edwards also introduced a similar bill in the Senate.

The second, House Bill 1188.

This bill talks about the Commonwealth as a whole developing regulations and procedures to prevent pipeline leaks and protect water and soil resources from pollution.

The bill would also hold pipeline operators accountable for pipeline leaks.

Delegate Hurst said quote: “I want to make sure that the commonwealth does it’s duty to protect citizens by requiring natural gas pipeline monitoring and penalties if leaks or explosions do occur.”
