Well I’ll Bee monthly meeting focuses on identity theft

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Identity Theft was the topic of discussion in Beckley. It was part of the Well I’ll Bee monthly meeting held at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center on Wednesday, Oct. 2.

Ray Morton with Ameriprise Financial was the guest speaker. He explained how people can protect themselves and how to spot the red flags when it comes to identity theft. He said the most common way for someone to steal a person’s identity is through a phone call.

“The use of the word ‘Yes’ is kind of a thing you shouldn’t do on the telephone because they can record your yes and use it to open other credit accounts or change passwords and stuff like that,” Morton said.

If you are a victim of identity theft, you should place a freeze on your credit cards and file a police report. For more information about identity theft, visit Ameriprise Financial.
