TUNNELTON, W.Va. – A Tunnelton man was arrested Sunday after allegedly beating his mother and girlfriend.

Matthew Turner, 33, is accused of hitting his mother and girlfriend with an assortment of items, according to the Preston County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies said Turner beat them with a wooden log, a fan, and a metal pipe with a 4-year-old child present.

Turner’s mother said he smashed both of her phones, so she ran to a nearby convenience store to call 911 for help, according to court documents. The girlfriend ran to another nearby convenience store and waited for law enforcement there with her 4-year-old child, deputies said.

The residence had blood spatter in several locations, deputies said, and a large log and a busted fan were lying on the ground with blood on them. A set of black, iron fireplace tongs were also found on the floor, deputies said.

Turner’s girlfriend told deputies she tried to leave but said Turner took her car keys.

Turner’s mother was found with blood on her in the store, a laceration on the right side of her head and bruising on her back, arms and legs. Turner’s girlfriend had blood on her face and several, severe bruises, as well, deputies said.

Deputies said Turner told his mother and girlfriend that he would “bash both their heads in.”

Turner is charged with two counts of malicious assault and burglary.
