OAK HILL, W. Va. (WVNS)– Two people are in jail after officers found a child riding in a car with uncapped needles and drugs during a traffic stop.

On Monday May 14, 2018 an officer pulled over Jason Rinehart and Amy Briers on Central Avenue in Oak Hill for not using a signal light.

During the traffic stop, the officer saw a needle in plain sight, and a spoon and straws containing white residue. A 3-year-old child was not wearing a seatbelt in the car, but instead was sitting on Amy Briers’s lap on the passenger side.

The officer asked the driver Jason Rinehart to step out of the car and searched him. During the search, a pill bottle containing several Hydrocodone pills and one Alprazolam pill.

More drugs and drug paraphernalia including, a pipe, needles, aluminum foil was found in the car. According to court documents, the aluminum foil had burn spots on it, leading officers to believe it was used to heat up heroin.

Rinehart and Briers were both arrested and charged with possession with the intent to deliver, and child neglect creating risk of injury or death.

Both remain in the Southern Regional Jail on $25,000 bond.
