Concerns have been raised after a building in Fayette County is discovered to have a number of safety violations.

The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building in Fayetteville has 16 violations. Some of them include old furnaces, natural gas leaks, faulty venting and a potential for carbon monoxide; and currently they have no gas. The Fayette County Commission came together on Friday, Aug. 3, 2018 to further discuss and look at these issues.

They came to the decision of hiring an engineer to prepare two estimates; one being repairs and the other replacements. County Commission President, Matthew Wender, said they are in a big hurry to get this all figured out.

“The county carries this in our budget, we carry a significant sum for maintenance issues. We own a lot of buildings, a lot of old properties and so every year when we do a budget, we set aside money for issues like this.” Wender said.

The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building was built in the early 50’s so most of its internal problems come from its aging infrastructure.
