OAK HILL, WV (WVNS) — An investigation into money stolen from a 92-year-old man leads to an arrest in Fayette County on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018. Lela Virginia Rhodes, 37, of Oak Hill,WV is facing 32 counts of forgery and uttering, plus one count of financial exploitation of the elderly.
Rhodes worked for the victim. Deputies said she stole checks, then forged the victim’s signature. She is accused of taking nearly $11,000.
“Elderly persons are often seen as easy targets,” said Sheriff Mike Fridley. “In many cases like these, there are people keeping vigilance over their affairs and well being, which enables us to bring justice on their behalf.”
Rhodes is being held in the Southern Regional Jail. Her bond is set at $20,000.
