State Troopers investigating hostage situation in Scarbro

Troopers with West Virginia State Police are investigating a hostage situation in the Scarbro area. 

It happened around 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2018.  Troopers responded to a home on Okey L. Patteson Road regarding a domestic dispute with a gun.

When troopers arrived, they found William Cox holding a female hostage inside the home. Troopers then entered the home to try to negotiate with Cox to release the woman. During this time, Cox allegedly began threatening the woman’s life. 

Troopers shot Cox after he raised his gun in their direction. Cox was pronounced dead at the scene.

No officers were injured. Cox’s remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
