Staff at one national reserve decided to throw a thank-you for local hometown heroes.

On June 16, 2018, the Summit Bechtel reserve teamed up with the West Virginia National Guard to have their fourth annual Veterans and Community Heroes Appreciation Day.  With delicious food and local bands for their entertainment, attendees also enjoyed zip lines, archery, an aerial challenge, a gun range simulator, and numerous outdoor activities.  But as Summit’s Jonathan Collins explained, those honored do not pertain to just the armed forces.

“We will still be honoring our veterans and active service members, but we’ll also be expanding that to anyone in the community that is a local hero,” Collins said.  “So your EMS, your firefighters, your teachers.”

More than 800 people attended the event.
