Triathletes are hitting the streets in downtown Fayetteville for an extreme triathlon.
The Captain Thurmond Challenge will be held Saturday, August 4. The race is 28.5 miles of mountain biking, whitewater rafting and trail running. It is a part of the New River Gorge Challenge weekend.
There are different categories for different ability levels and can be done solo or on a team. Fayetteville Convention and Visitors Bureau Events Manager, Tabitha Stover, said this brings in a lot of tourists.
“People come in from all over, people are really excited about it, it’s a really big event for us so we’re pumped to have it here,” Stover said.
Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. on race day with a $10 increase for paying the day of the event. Music and food are planned for after the race is over. To register and for more information, visit https://nrgorgegames.com/.
