WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WVNS) — If you have driven through White Sulphur Springs recently, you may have noticed new banners hung throughout the city.
Nearly 20 banners are hung high and proud in the air. These banners are there to honor those who serve, and have served, and those who have fallen in the line of duty.
Road of Honor Committee Member, Bobby White, said each banner honors a hero and tells a story.
“I think it gives some, per se, color to White Sulphur Springs. It shows that we do care, we do think about our Veterans,” White said.
A committee formed to bring the Roads of Honor Program to life.
Richard Streck, a Veteran and Roads of Honor Committee Member, saw something similar in his hometown in Pennsylvania, and knew this was an idea he wanted to bring to the town.
“I served with a lot of West Virginians, they’re just great people to serve with. They are excellent marksman and courageous people,” Streck said.
Streck said he saw a banner with his name and picture. He’s not sure how it got there, but it’s a feeling others should get to experience.
“That inside made me feel good and it will do the same for them. Particularly after a long deployment or they come home on leave for Christmas or something like that. It’s a gift that will never be forgotten,” Streck said.
Banners are still available for purchase. For more information you can visit the programs Facebook page.
