Communication: Key for city plowing protocol

While utilities and trees can be a problem during winter weather, tending the roads are also tall tasks for cities like Lewisburg.

But in any severe situation, the police department initiates requests for road maintenance. The call would be forwarded to the 911 Center, which then sends it out to Public Works Director, Roger Pence, and his staff.

“[My staff] know[s] the intracacies of intersections and driveways, et cetera,” Pence said. “They get the job really quickly.”

If rain follows snow, protocol is also in place for clearing storm drains of any slush or debris to prevent any property from flooding.
