One person is dead following a mining accident in Greenbrier County.
According to the Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training, the accident happened around 1:52 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, at the Southern Fork Coal Company, LLC, Blue Knob Surface Mine in Greenbrier County. They believe Adam DeBoard of Craigsville, WV, died during a fall from a highwall miner.
DeBoard was 38-years-old, and worked as a loader operator at the mine.
The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training is investigating the incident.
Governor Jim Justice and First Lady Cathy Justice expressed their condolences in a statement Thursday evening:
“West Virginia lost one of our dedicated coal miners today, and Cathy and I are deeply saddened at the news. We encourage everyone to join us in praying for the family, friends, and co-workers of Adam DeBoard of Craigsville. Brave and courageous miners like Mr. DeBoard are heroes to us all.”
