With the possibility of snow in the forecast, towns are taking the necessary steps to be prepared when winter weather strikes.

The street department in Rainelle works ahead of the forecast, placing employees on standby to be ready to go and clear the streets. Workers dropped gravel and salt on the roads Mondayy to help snow and ice melt quickly.

With the possibility of a few inches of snow, Rainelle Street Department Manager, Bobby Burton, said the department is checking all equipment to make sure it is operating correctly.

“We make sure our plows are mounted, our spreaders are mounted and filled, everything is functioning. That way when a weather event occurs, there’s no delay we can get right on it,” Burton said.

Street Department employees ask residents to park in driveways when possible and not on the side of the street, to make it easier for plows clearing the roads.
