RONCEVERTE, WV (WVNS) — Head Start is celebrating its 53rd year in public schools.

To commemorate the special occasion, State Senator Stephen Baldwin read to students at Ronceverte Elementary School on Thursday, May 24, 2018.

Associate Superintendent for Greenbrier County Schools, Nancy Hanna, said she is thankful for Head-Start as it benefits those living in Greenbrier County.

“It helps our families and our children. I’m immensely thankful to have Head Start in Greenbrier County Schools,” Hanna said.

Senator Baldwin said he is grateful for the opportunity to read with such young kids and help them learn.

“I love it because studies show the more you read with kids earlier, the better. It helps improve vocabulary and cognitive abilities,” Baldwin said.

Senator Baldwin also encouraged members of the community to volunteer and participate in read-aloud programs in schools.
