Traffic stop in Rainelle leads to heroin arrest

RAINELLE, WV (WVNS) —  A traffic stop in Rainelle leads to the arrest of two people from Virginia.  It happened along Route 60 at around 11:45 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018.

Officers with the Rainelle Police Department pulled over a car driving east on Route 60 after the driver failed to dim his headlights.  Investigators said they could smell marijuana when they approached the car.  After questioning the people inside, they search the vehicle and found 1.58 grams of heroin, a small amount of marijuana and digital scales.

During questioning, the two passengers told police they had arranged to sell the drugs to the driver of the car by text message.  Romello Atkins is charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and two counts of conspiracy.  Shakayla Andrews is facing two counts of conspiracy.  The suspects told investigators they brought the drugs from Virginia.

Atkins and Andrews are being held in the Southern Regional Jail.  Atkins bond is set at $35,000.  Andrews bond is $10,000.
