According to the Army Corps of Engineers Huntington District, $20 million from the federal government’s 2018 bipartisan agreement will go to McDowell County.

The money will fund voluntary, nonstructural projects, which focus on flood-proofing and acquisition in order to improve areas affected by the 1977 floods.

The projects are located by Panther Creek, Browns Creek, Elkhorn Creek, Dry Fork, and Tug Fork rivers.  More than 750 eligible structures, which include businesses and homes, are categorized under it.
