16-year-old dead, 6 injured in crash along Route 10 in Mercer County

LASHMEET, WV (WVNS) — One person has died and six people are injured following a two-vehicle crash along Route 10 in Lashmeet, Mercer County, Tuesday evening. 

According to dispatchers, the crash happened in the 1700 block of Route 10, also known as Matoaka Road, around 6:00 p.m. 

Sgt. A.P. Chistian with West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment said 34-year-old Anthony Billings was driving on Route 10 and made a left turn in front of a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Justin Akers. 

Christian said the 16-year-old passenger in Akers’ vehicle passed away as a result of the crash. Their name has not been released. Six people total were injured in the crash, including four children in Billings vehicle. 

Motoaka Volunteer Fire Department, Princeton Rescue, West Virginia State Police and Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene.
