The family of a victim in a murder case from the Bluewell area received some closure on Wednesday, May 30, 2018.  The suspect in the case, Orlando Davis, 44, of Buefield, WV, pleaded guilty to charges of second degree murder and second degree robbery.

Nearly two years ago, Davis killed and robbed Randal Morgan in the bathroom of the Kroger in Bluefield.  He also attacked and robbed 18-year-old Waylon Neal at the former Save-A-Lot store in Brushfork.  Davis was originally indicted on charges of first degree murder, malicious assault and first degree robbery.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor, George Sitler, Davis took a “best interest” plea.  That means he admitted there was enough evidence for a jury to convict him, but he didn’t actually admit he was guilty.  Sitler said the state accepted the plea to the lesser charges due to a lack of forensic evidence linking Davis to Morgan’s murder.

The family of one of the victims was consulted about the plea deal.  Mr. Sitler told 59News they were pleased with the outcome.

Davis faces 45 to 58 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 30, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.  He will not be eligible for parole for 15 years.
