Safety gear is essential for firefighters to do their jobs.  On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, the Bluefield, WV City Manager announced a $2,000 donation to the fire department.  The money came from the Ethel N. Bowen Foundation.

The funds were used to buy gloves and hoods.  Bluefield Fire Chief Rick Cary said this is essential equipment firefighters require to enter a fire zone.

“We are grateful to the Ethel N. Bowen Foundation for their generosity and their involvement in the community,” said Cary.  “Gloves and hoods are required for every fire and hazardous material call.”

Cary went on to thank the foundation for making Bluefield a safer place to live, work and play.
