Friday, May 11, 2018 UPDATE:  A Mercer County Judge made a ruling in a horrific murder case on Friday.  According to Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler, Roena Mills was found competent to stand trial.

Mills is accused of second degree murder after she was found covered in blood on April 1, 2018.  She allegedly decapitated Bo White at a home in the Lerona area of Mercer County.  A preliminary hearing in the case will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.

ORIGINAL STORY: A competency hearing for a woman accused of cutting a man’s head off was held Monday morning at the Mercer County Courthouse.

Roena Cheryl Mills from Rural Retreat, Virginia is charged with second degree murder. At Monday’s hearing, the judge ruled Mills will go to Charleston for psych evaluation.

“There is the nature of the crime itself of course, but apparently she was not very responsive with the initial investigating officers. She just did not seem to be all there,” Mercer County Prosecutor George Sitler said.

According to court documents, the murder happened on April 1, 2018 in Lerona, Mercer County. Deputies were called to Eden Valley Road where they reportedly found Mills covered in blood and wearing a glove on her left hand.

She allegedly told officials a false name and said she was cut by being thrown through a glass door. During that time, officers said she became combative and was arrested. In the deputy’s car, Mills reportedly said “you have to take me back and let me get my heads.”

Later that day, investigators said they received a call about a murder on Clover Lane. There, deputies said they found a man decapitated inside of his home and a glove that matched the same on Mills was wearing. Deputies also said they found a body part of the victim near the woods, close to the victim’s home.

Deputies said the victim’s name is Bo White.  Employees at Southern Regional Jail said Mills was talking about killing someone while she was at the jail. The victim’s father told deputies White and Mills were dating.

Mills is being held in the Southern Regional Jail on a $210,000 cash only bond.   The case now heads to the grand jury in June.
