A referral from Facebook to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children leads to the arrest of a West Virginia man.  William Shane Vaughn, 56, of Rock, WV is charged with Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography.

The referral from Facebook indicated that a digital picture was sent using Facebook Messenger from Mr. Vaughn’s account on July 7.  Mercer County deputies searched Vaughn’s home on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018.  During that search, deputies said he admitted to sending the image.

“Mr. Vaughn is mere charged at this point and should be afforded the presumption of innocence and due process of law,” said Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler. “However, child pornography documents sexual violence against defenseless children.  Such images are an indelible record of horrifying crimes.  Distribution of child pornography will not be tolerated in Mercer County, and our law enforcement agencies will spare no effort in investigating and prosecuting these crimes.”

Vaughn was arraigned and released on a $20,000 bond.  His preliminary hearing will be scheduled withing the next 20 days.
