Crews battle a smoke filled building in Bluefield

Mercer County emergency crews rushed to the scene of reports of a smokey building in Bluefield. 

Mercer County 911 Dispatchers confirmed as of 5:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, six crews are on scene on Federal Street in Bluefield.

Dispatchers said they can’t confirm there is a fire at this time, but there is a large amount of smoke coming out of a building. 

On scene assisting with the smoke is the Bluefield West Virginia Fire Department, the Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Bluewell Volunteer Fire Department and Bluefield Virginia Fire Department. 

Right now is it unclear if there are any injuries, but the Bluefield Rescue Squad is on sene as a precaution. 

Federal Street in Bluefield has been closed down as a result of the smoke. The Bluefield Police Department is redirecting traffic until the scene is cleared.
