PRINCETON W. Va. (WVNS) — Mercer County is looking to set new guidelines for law enforcement in the event of a police chase.

While all agencies in the county currently have their own policies, Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler said he sees the need for change.

The idea for a reformed policy came about after the death of Bluefield police officer, Aaron Crook, back in May of 2017.

“It became apparent when I reviewed that situation that agencies needed to have more guidance in terms of what’s appropriate and when,” said Sitler.

Sitler added all law enforcement agencies in Mercer County are on board for the change. He hopes to have a new policy in place in a few months.
