Local group works to help homeless in NC

Mercer County

With the lasting cold weather, one local group continued to help those in need this winter. Fred Kinder, the founder of Warm a Heart, Give a Bed, set out on his annual trip to Charlotte, North Carolina, to pass out sleeping bags to the homeless.

This year, Kinder brought along 20 Bluefield High School students, plus members from Crossroads Church in Bluefield.

Kinder said something as small as a sleeping bag and gloves can make a big difference. “Just talking to them and seeing the reactions on their faces when we give them a sleeping bag. We have toboggans to give them, gloves to give them, and socks to give them. It’s a blessing to us. We’re doing just a small part, but this small part could save somebody’s life tonight,” Kinder said.

Kinder met up with a church in Charlotte to pass out the sleeping bags. Together they collected over 400 sleeping bags.
