BLUEFIELD W. Va. (WVNS) — A local business in Mercer County is serving up fresh, economic growth.
Patty and Jo McKenna, owners of Patty Joe’s, are working to make business bloom in Bluefield, West Virginia.
Serving only fresh ingredients, Patty McKenna said the restaurant is bringing the taste of New England to the Mountain State.
“I felt that we would do well in this market and we could make our stake. We could bring something new to Bluefield, and that’s fresh seafood,” said McKenna.
Patty McKenna is originally from Bluefield. After moving to Massachusetts and opening a restaurant with her husband that was in business for eight years, she decided to move back home and bring her love for cooking with her.
McKenna said owning a restaurant in such a small market has its challenges but they have been working to overcome the hurdles and serving fresh food.
“It takes time to build a reputation, and for people to trust you. Especially when you’re dealing with seafood this far out. It seems almost impossible to get something that delicious,” said McKenna.
McKenna explained they have someone bring in fresh seafood from Massachusetts and Maryland up to three times a week.
Patty Joe’s does have some frequent customers, like Stephanie Phillips. She said her favorite items on the menu are the fresh New England flavors.
“I love Patty Joe’s because it’s just a really great environment. The people are really friendly, and mostly the food. The food is incredible. It’s just fresh, unreal that it’s here in Bluefield,” said Phillips.
Patty Joe’s offers something for everyone on their menu.
