The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department welcomed a new addition to the force.
Axel is the newest K-9 to join the department. He is trained to detect and track explosive devices.
Deputy M. R. Lacy, Axel’s handler, said they spent four weeks training together in North Carolina. Lacy added that with the nature of violence these days, Axel will be instrumental in keeping the community safe.
“The way things are going in these days and times, a lot of people are turning to explosives to hurt people. So it’s nice to have something like this to keep people safe,” Lacy explained.
Once Axel is certified by the state, he’ll be ready to officially work alongside his fellow Mercer County Sheriffs Deputies.
