Monroe County Council on Aging put on probation after financial issues

Monroe County

UNION, WV. (WVNS)– The Monroe County Council on Aging has been put on probation by one of it’s funding agencies.

According to Ramona Stanley with the Appalachian Area Agency On Aging, the Monroe County Council on Aging was put on probation after they did not comply with federal regulations and rules. The agency issues a three month provisional contract with special conditions. This is after the agency identified a number of noncompliance issues including, misused funds and inadequate bank records for the funds.

AAAOA is one of several agencies that distributes federal and state funding to the Monroe County Council on Aging.

Stanley said the Board of Directors is suppose to provide oversight for the council, but failed to do so.
The council was put on probation for a three month period to get their finances straightened out. The probation period will end in September and the agency will decide how long of a contract to give the council.
