Middle school students from the Monroebotics 4-H Club in Union, WV took home top honors during the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Championships at Fairmont State University.  The competition was held on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017.

The team, called the Boa Constrictors, built a robot out of Legos and programmed it to score points in a sports style match.  There was also a team work challenge and a research project.  This year’s theme was Hydro Dynamics.  The Monroe County team researched pharmaceuticals in the local waterways and decided they could do something about it. They shared information and instructions on how to make a medicine disposal bag at home with everyday materials.

The success of the team led to an invitation to the FIRST Robotics World Championships.  That event will be held in Detroit, MI in April.
