February 20, 2020 at 5:45 p.m. UPDATE: Pineville, WV (WVNS) — The next section of the Coalfields Expressway is not expected to be completed for a few more months.

Tin Goins with the Division of Highways told 59 News crews are currently working to fix any drainage problems and installing guardrails.

Goins said they expect the highway to be done in June.

PINEVILLE, WV (WVNS)- Construction for the coalfields expressway is still underway. This highway will provide a newer route for people to use to get back and forth between the Beckley area and Wyoming County.

The Coalfields Expressway Authority had a meeting in August where the Department of Highways in Charleston said another company was hired to help oversee the expressway being built from Mullens to Welch. Mike Goode with the authority said so far, all construction is on schedule with no foreseeable delays.

“It’s moving right along. They’re still working on the paving from slab fork on in to Mullens to finish the road there. Now when it’ll be done, I’d say sometime in 2020,” Goode said.

Goode said he thinks the progress on this highway is moving along as well as it ever has.
