Technology is a changing industry, and one app is changing the way firefighters respond to calls.
Firefighters have to be ready to go and respond to calls in the blink of an eye. Active 911 is an app that is changing the firefighting industry.
Captain Ernest Parsons with the Beckley Fire Department said the app has features like, showing first responders the quickest route to the scene, where fire hydrants are located and how many firefighters can respond to the call.
“Anytime there’s a fire this app has been helpful, really it’s invaluable,” said Parsons.
Firefighters get an alert on their phone after a call comes through the 9-1-1 dispatch in Raleigh County.
Parsons added now that first responders are learning all of the features the app has available, almost all firefighters are using Active 911 in their everyday routine.
“More people are seeing the use of it, and more people are getting on board with putting information into it. It’s only as good as you make it,” said Parsons.
Captain Ernest Parsons adds the app is not replacing radios at the fire station, and is not their only way of getting calls. He explained Active 911 has been another helpful resource for the fire station.
