A man who was taken from the Southern Regional Jail for medical treatment had a few short hours of freedom on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, before he was recaptured. Jeffrey Johnson was taken to Raleigh General Hospital for care, when he escaped from custody at around 10 a.m. Details on how he was able to get away are limited, but police said a correctional officer from the jail accompanies a prisoner at all times during these situations.
