The flu shot this year, is proven to be more effective than last year’s vaccine.

The CDC found the flu shot vaccine is reducing the risk of flu related illnesses by 47 percent. That’s up from 36 percent last year. Infection preventionist, Nancy Edwards, said although they are not seeing a huge problem with the flu, it is still a good idea to get vaccinated.

“If you do not want to have the flu, the CDC’s recommendation is to get the flu vaccine. It is ideal to get it in October but it is still not too late,” Edwards said. “You can still vaccinate for the flu even as late as January and even now. As long as the flu season is going on, then it’s reccommended you get the vaccine.”

Flu season ends Friday, May 31 of this year.
