On Thursday, November 1, 2018, the Kelly Family Foundation presented the YMCA of Southern West Virginia with a $100,000 contribution towards the organization’s local Capital Campaign, the largest to date.
YMCA CEO, Jay Rist, said he sees it as a huge financial step forward towards the Y’s new home.
“We’re very, very honored and privileged to have [the Kelly Family Foundation] on board,” Rist said.
Weathered Ground Brewery Co-Founder, Aryn Fonda, is a part of the foundation and said she visualizes the gift as a return investment to ensure her kids have somewhere to play and grow for years to come.
“When my brother and I were children, we were part of the Y and I think it really shaped us to who we are today,” Fonda said. “We have a two-and-a-half year-old and a nine-month-old. We want to do whatever we can do and the community to make sure that they can grow up in a place where they feel safe and they have a place to go continue to grow and meet new people.”
“They believe in the Y,” Rist said. “They’re getting in their donation in now. It’s a tremendous help… We’re looking forward to seeing how it all plays out for us.”
With the current pace of incoming funds, Rist said the earliest the new YMCA will break ground could be within the first six months of 2019.
