5:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2019 UPDATE: Appalachian Power has restored power to around 3,800 customers who were without electricity on Tuesday afternoon. As of 5 p.m. there were still around 4,800 people who were without power.
The company is looking to switch more customers to alternate sources while crews identitfy the problem and make repairs.
ORIGINAL STORY: Appalachian Power is reporting there are thousands of customers in the Beckley area on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 who are without electricity. As of 2:30 p.m. there were 8,624 people who were without power.
AEP reports the power went out at around 1:30 p.m. Appalachian Power spokesman Phil Moye said the outage was caused by equipment issues at the company’s Beckley Station in the area of Beaver Ave.
59News has contacted officials with Appalachian Power and is following this story. Crews are working to restore power by routing some communities through other stations. The company estimates the power will be restored by around 7 p.m.
