Local breweries overflowing with public interest

COOL RIDGE, WV (WVNS) — Surrounded by wide open spaces, Weathered Ground has evolved from an oasis in Cool Ridge to a traveler’s paradise. Co-founder and head brewer Sam Fonda has noticed the wide range of customers that has walked through his front doors.

“People just travelling through from North Carolina to Ohio,” Fonda said.  “A lot of people use Google these days, so our tap-room in general has really been kind of a hit and we’re also doing a lot of sales to restaurants and bars in the area.”

Since opening for business just five months ago, Fonda has already seen exponential growth, in part due to a large online presence.

“We use social media the best way we can to try to always let people know when we’re open, who’s carrying our beer, and what’s going on at other places that we’re involved in,” Fonda said.  “That’s really helped with our branding.”

Aside from quality control of the beer, he says another attribute to the brewery’s success is finding a balance between staying true to the old and keeping up with the new.

“We stay on top of our most popular beers,” Fonda said.  “But we’re also being creative and coming up with new beers.”

From the ambience to the very beers that pour out of their tap-well, Fonda wants to make sure the customer experience is spot-on for anyone that comes and takes a seat at the bar.

“It’s one of the most beautiful places to have a beer,” Fonda said.  “We want to make great beer and we want to create memories.”
