A Beckley man was arrested on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 in a bizarre arson investigation. Police were called to a home on Alvin St. after a man was seen lighting a fire in the driveway.

Cpl. Cuevas with the Beckley Police identified the subject as Andrew Lee Francis, 21, of Beckley, WV.  Francis told police he was dropped off at the home and he was burning his personal items. Investigators said he showed signs of being under the influence of narcotics.

Police called the homeowner, who lives in Georgia. She told them she does not know Francis, and he did not have permission to be on the property.

Because the fire was close to the house, Francis was arrested and charged with Fourth Degree Arson. If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison and a $2,500 fine. Francis is being held in the Southern Regional Jail on a $500 bond.
