Bypass plaza in Beckley is about to have some new businesses moving in that will have locals shopping, eating, and hitting the gym.

Expansions to the old Magic Mart building are underway for a Planet Fitness Center and Aldi grocery store. Across the parking lot, ground has broken for construction of a Texas Roadhouse restaurant.

Although many are sad to see old businesses like Magic Mart gone, Beckley Code Enforcement was glad to see the building was beneficial for new establishments.

“Business location is like real estate, location location location is all important and if you have a circumstance like that where we spent quite a bit of money on Magic Mart to have it get in there it means the electric and the plumbing is good to go and the new owner can go in their and expand it however they want it,” Chief of Beckley Code Enforcement Bob Cannon said.

Planted right in the heart of major retail and restaurant activity, the new editions to the center will likely draw in a lot of customers.

“They’re generally gonna locate wherever there is a situation where they can garner business and turn a profit,” says Cannon.

Texas Roadhouse headquarters confirms the Beckley location will be open as of February 2019 while Planet Fitness is hoping to open doors in December, right in time for New Years resolution gym memberships.
