One of Southern West Virginia’s largest high schools is getting a new principal.

School board members tell 59 News they voted Tuesday night at the Raleigh County Board of Education meeting to elect Rocky Powell as Woodrow Wilson High School’s new principal.

Powell has worked in the education field for more than 30 years and has recently been the school’s assistant principal.

Powell will replace Ron Cantley, who retired last month.

Board members said Powell’s principal position is effective immediately.
