The Raleigh County Commission is in the process of selecting a new commissioner. Effective Friday, March 22, 2019, Byrd White will no longer be a commissioner. He accepted the position as the new West Virginia Secretary of Transportation.
The commission now has to search for a new commissioner to take over White’s term. The term will go through 2021. When selecting a new commissioner to replace him, they need to find someone from the same district that White represented. This new commissioner will also need to be a republican.
David Tolliver, Raleigh County Commissioner, said that has always been the law.
“That’s just the way the law was set up. Even though I represent, and she represents the whole county, but when we’re elected we have to be from one of the three districts. Mr. White, he represented district three,“ Tolliver said.
Tolliver also said they should conclude the search for White’s replacement in the next week or two.
