FAIRDALE (WVNS) – Six people are facing burglary charges after officials said they broke into a terminally-ill patients home.
Scottie Smith, Lawanda Chambers, Scottie Smith Junior, Leah Harper, Wayne Gullet Jr., and Randa Basham were arrested on Thursday. All of them are charged with burglary.
According to officials, they received a call from the victim, who is battling cancer, about people inside her home. The victim told officers she was staying with family out of town while recovering from surgery and did not give anyone permission to be in their home.
When officers arrived to the home on Fisher Road in Fairdale, they found six people inside. Smith and Chambers said it was their parents’ house and they had permission to be there.
Officers said the home had forcible entry. They also recovered a key to the victim’s Jeep.
All six are being held in the Southern Regional Jail.
