State Troopers in Raleigh County announced the arrest of two convicted sex offenders who were wanted for failing to update the sex offender registry. The arrests were made on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018.
Solon Atkins, 54, had been arrested on May 1, 2018 and sent to the Southern Regional Jail. When he was released, he failed to update the West Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry.
Atkins is back in the Southern Regional Jail on a $10,000 bond. He faces one to five years in prison if convicted.
Karl Woods, 55, is also charged with failing to update the sex offender registry. He did not report that he had obtained a vehicle during the winter of 2017. An anonymous tip led to the discovery of the vehicle he was driving.
Woods has a prior failure to register charge. If convicted, he could be sentenced to serve 10 to 25 years in prison. Woods is being held without bond on a charge from Mercer County and a $10,000 bond for the charge in Raleigh County.
