9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, 2018 UPDATE:  State Troopers announced on Thursday that Chris York has been arrested.  He was taken into custody on Tuesday, July 31.

York is charged for failing to register as a sex offender.  He faces one to five years in prison if he is convicted.

ORIGINAL STORY: A man who is required to register as a sex offender is wanted by West Virginia State Troopers.  They are looking for Chris York, who had moved from Wyoming County to Raleigh County.

York registered the move with the State Police detachment in Wyoming County.  He told troopers that he was seeking help from the Sound Mind, Inc. shelter in Lester.

When investigators went to check on Mr. York, officials at the shelter said he had only been there for one day and then left.  Mr. York is required to register as a sex offender for 10 years, but also has two prior convictions for failing to register.  That makes this latest offense a felony.

Anyone with information on Mr. York’s location is asked to contact the Beckley Detachment of the West Virginia State Police at 304-256-6700 or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia at 304-255-STOP (7867).  Anonymous tips can also be left online at the Crime Stoppers of West Virginia website or by using the P3 Tips App on a smart phone or mobile device.
