UPDATE 7/11/2018 10:00 a.m.  A man has been charged for murdering a woman at a local hotel in Beckley.

Jonthan Bird is charged with first degree murder, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to police, on July 9, 2018, officers responded to the Travelodge on Harper road in Beckley where they found Amber Dawn Meadows, 19, of Midway, dead in a hotel room.

Officers said several women approached them saying they were forcefully held along with Meadows in the hotel room for several hours.

Earlier in the night, the woman told officers they were in a vehicle on Robert C. Byrd Drive when they were approached by three men. The men ordered the victims to follow them to the Travelodge and one of the guys climbed into the car with a gun.

At the hotel, the victims said the men took their cellphones and became more aggressive by repeatedly pointing guns at them, and forcing them to stay in one bed.

At one point, Meadows and one of the men got into a heated argument over drug money he believed he was owed. The victims said during the argument one of the men took Meadows to the back of the room and they heard arguing and then a loud gunshot.

The suspects then ran from the room giving the other victims the opportunity to run to a restaurant close by and call 911.

Bird was given a $5,000 bond for the conspiracy charge, and no bond on the first degree murder and kidnapping charges. He remains in the Southern Regional Jail.
